Dr. Richard Bastías is an associate professor of Fruit Culture at the Faculty of Agronomy of the University of Concepción. His lines of research are framed in the field of fruit tree physiology, climatic protection systems for orchards and precision fruit growing. It is one of the major national and international references in physiology and crop production in a protected environment, demonstrated. He is the inventor of the combined photo-selectivity bicolor nets to mitigate stress due to excessive solar radiation and high temperatures in fruits; technology that has been patented, licensed in Chile and abroad, and is currently used by producers of apples, grapes, berries and cherries. Dr. Bastías is currently the Director of the Plant Production Department and directs the Fruit Growing Laboratory of Agronomy at the University of Concepción.
